Full submissions for the BCO Awards 2027 close on Friday 4 December 2026 at 17:00. Both the British Council for Offices' awards page and the dedicated entry portal give that cutoff. Neither labels the timezone, so confirm the applicable time with the awards team rather than assuming your local time applies.
Check Your Project Before You Start
The main awards accept schemes developed in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, excluding the Channel Islands and Outer Isles. The owner, occupier or a member of their respective teams can submit; the award is made to the project client.
The edition-specific rules say projects must have been completed between 1 January 2022 and 1 November 2026, with offices as their significant use. Only the office area is judged, and projects do not need to be occupied to qualify for the main awards.
There is a discrepancy worth resolving before you pay: the organiser's generic About and FAQ guidance says projects should be no older than 4 years from January of the award year. That does not align neatly with the explicit 2027 completion range above, which is repeated in the entry portal. Plan against the edition-specific range, but ask the awards team to confirm eligibility if your completion date falls near the boundary.
Choose the Category and Budget Together
The fee is £450 plus VAT per category entry, and entry fees are non-refundable. Entering a project in more than one permitted category therefore needs its own budget decision. A project cannot be entered in the same category more than once; phased projects may submit separate phases in appropriate years.
Check the category definitions and size requirements before drafting. Projects up to 2,500m2 is the dedicated smaller-project category. Innovation and ESG are regional nomination awards: the regional judges nominate and choose their winners from other categories, rather than treating them as ordinary additional entry routes.
Prepare Evidence, Not Just Attractive Images
Register on the official entry portal; its account is separate from the main BCO website. The submission asks for project and team details, answers to the judges' questions in PDF format, and 10 different digital photographs, not CAD images.
Build your narrative around the brief, the design decisions and what the completed workplace delivers. Gather evidence of outcomes alongside clear interior and exterior photographs. Explain the team's contribution rather than assuming a striking image will make the case for you. Crafting Winning Awards Entries can help you turn those materials into a focused argument.
Leave time to check publication permissions and team-contact consent, review the current entry guide and complete payment before submission. The Customer Experience Award uses a separate portal and different occupancy requirements: confirm the right route before applying the main-awards rules to that programme.
