Nominations for the Golden Whistle Awards 2027 close on 18 December 2026, leaving 47 days from this check. The Chartered Institution of Railway Operators invites nominations in the Outstanding Operator / Operating Team category to recognise individuals, teams or operating interventions that have gone above and beyond in rail operations.
The edition page does not specify a closing time or timezone. Confirm the cutoff with the organiser rather than relying on an end-of-day submission.
Nominate People, Not a Performance Ranking
This nomination route is distinct from the programme's data-based awards. Most categories are judged from industry-compiled data and do not require entry submissions. Those performance areas include operational performance, cancellations, freight and delay minutes; an open nomination is not the route into every category.
For Outstanding Operator / Operating Team, start with the contribution that deserves recognition. Explain the operating challenge, what the person or team did differently and who benefited. Gather concrete examples of safer working, more efficient operations or effective collaboration, and connect the outcome to the nominee's decisions rather than listing routine duties.
Ask colleagues who witnessed the work for specific supporting detail, and check permission before sharing operational or personal information. A clear account of the problem, action and result will give your nomination a stronger focus than general praise.
Plan for the March Ceremony
The organiser says winners will be announced on 5 March 2027 at the Modern Railways Fourth Friday Club ceremony at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London. Gold, Silver and Highly Commended recognition will be presented for the nomination category.
Use the official nomination form, linked from the current edition page, and allow time for an internal review before the December deadline.
