Entries for the Building Controls Industry Association's BCIA Awards 2027 close on 11 December 2026 at 17:00 GMT. The programme recognises excellence in building controls and building energy management systems (BEMS). There are 37 days from this check to turn your team's technical work into a clear account of the difference it made.

The Dates to Plan Around

  • Entry deadline: 11 December 2026 at 17:00 GMT, as stated in the official entry portal.
  • Dinner and awards ceremony: 6 May 2027 at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham.

The organiser's 2027 awards page links to the entry system. New entrants need to register; returning entrants can use their existing login. You can save and edit a submission, but you must complete it and select submit before the deadline. A saved draft is not a submitted entry.

Keep Each Answer Within Its Limit

The official entry portal sets a strict 200-word limit for each section of the form, except for the Outstanding Contribution Award, which has a 300-word limit. Text beyond the limit will not be included in the submission sent to judges.

Read your chosen category's criteria before drafting. Give each answer a specific job: explain the challenge, identify what your team did and show the result. Avoid spending your limited space on company background when the question asks for evidence of achievement.

Show What Changed, Not Just What Was Installed

For a building-controls project, gather the baseline, the intervention and the measurable outcome. Where relevant, explain changes in energy use, system performance or the experience of building users, and make clear how you measured them. Pair the figures with client or user testimony that helps the reader understand their practical value.

For a people-focused submission, show the individual's contribution through specific examples rather than a list of responsibilities. Ask a colleague unfamiliar with the project to review the story, check every section's word count and allow time for permissions and final approval before 11 December.
